How do I get to Agistri?

By ferry! There are two options to choose from – both from Piraeus port, in Athens. You can either take the ferry (1:30 hr trip) to Skala port in Agistri island or the “flying dolphin” (55 minutes trip) to Megalochori port.

The Top 7 Agistri Beaches for a Greek Island Escape

Without further ado let’s jump straight into this article!

1. Skala Beach: Where Tranquility Meets Turquoise Waters

Nestled in the heart of Skala, the main village of Agistri Island, lies Skala Beach, a tranquil haven for sun-seekers.

Here, golden sands stretch as far as the eye can see, inviting visitors to bask in the warm Mediterranean sun.

With its calm and shallow waters, Skala Beach is ideal for families with young children.

Skala Beach is one of the organized beaches in Agistri! Here you will find hotels, sun loungers, umbrellas, beach bars, tavernas, and water sports rentals.

Very close to the beach; you will find the white church of Agioi Anargyri. To the left is a new tourist area known as Skliri, with similar features.

In the same direction, there is a beautiful path through lots of pine trees leading to Chalkidiada Beach. That one is more suitable for those seeking solitude (more on that below).

2. Chalikiada Beach: Surfers’ Paradise

For adrenaline junkies and water sports enthusiasts, Chalikiada Beach is the place to be. Located on the northern coast of Agistri Island, this windswept beach is renowned for its strong winds. This makes it ideal for windsurfing and kiteboarding.

Whether you’re a pro or a beginner, Chalikiada Beach offers endless thrills, excitement and breathtaking sea views.

Chalikiada Beach is a 10-minute walk through the forest from the “Skliri” area. The Area is well known for free camping and the nudist beach!

It’s known for its unique black volcanic sand and stunning rock formations! It doesn’t offer facilities like sunbeds, umbrellas, or beach bars. Visitors to Chalikiada Beach should be prepared to bring their own supplies for a day at the beach.

3. Aponisos Beach: A Secluded Retreat

One of the most famous Agistri beaches and for good reason! It’s a very small, organized, private island connected with a platform to Agistri Island. 

As you approach Aponisos Beach, you’ll be greeted by a picturesque landscape of lush greenery, pristine sands, and crystal-clear waters.

Spend your days lounging under the shade of swaying pine trees, or venture into the calm sea for a leisurely swim or snorkeling adventure.

Bear in mind that this isn’t an actual beach with sand! Access is through a platform or diving into the sea.

Aponisos Beach on Agistri Island is an organized beach, offering sun loungers, umbrellas, and a beach bar. Visitors can pay a 5 euro entry to the beach club, rent sunbeds, and purchase refreshments.

4. Dragonera Beach: Where Myth Meets Majesty

Named for its unique rock formations resembling the back of a dragon, Dragonera Beach is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and photographers.

Located on the eastern coast of Agistri Island, this enchanting beach offers a dramatic backdrop of rugged cliffs and sparkling waters.

Explore the hidden coves and sea caves that dot the shoreline, or simply relax on the soft sands and marvel at the natural beauty that surrounds you.

Dragonera is a mildly organized beach with umbrellas, snacks & cocktails at Dragonera Sunset Coast beach bar. There, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and cocktails, and everything is served in eco-friendly wooden food boats 

The beach bar plays chill-out music daily and On Saturdays There are Beach parties with DJs.

Dragonera Beach offers a picturesque and tranquil setting for swimming, snorkeling, and soaking up the natural beauty of Agistri Island.

5. Megalochori Beach: A Slice of Serenity

Megalochori Beach is a peaceful retreat nestled in the charming village of Megalochori.

Traditional fishing boats bob gently in the harbor, while visitors lounge on the sun-drenched sands.

Megalochori Beach (or Milos Beach) is a beautiful stretch of coastline with crystal-clear waters and soft sand. There are some bars, cafes, and restaurants in the area too! 

With its calm, shallow waters and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, Megalochori Beach is the perfect spot to unwind.

6. Skliri Beach: A Secluded Paradise

Definitely one of my favorite beaches in Aggistri, if not No1!

Skliri Beach is a mix of sand and pebbled beach with clear waters, very close to the central village of Skala. If you are looking for serenity and untouched beauty, this is the place for you!

Tucked between rocky cliffs adorned with lush greenery, this hidden cove offers a gorgeous sense of tranquility.

The soft, golden sands gently slope into the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea, inviting visitors to wade in and feel the refreshing embrace of the sea.

With its serene atmosphere and pristine surroundings, Skliri Beach is the perfect spot to escape the cares of the world and immerse oneself in the natural wonders of Agistri Island.

Known for its secluded and natural beauty, it isn’t an organized beach. There are no sun loungers, umbrellas, or beach bars. Skliri Beach offers a more rugged and unspoiled experience, perfect for those seeking solitude and connection with nature.

Tia’s Tip! The shores of Skliri Beach are rocky and a little steep – therefore please be careful when accessing the beach!

P.s Take your dog along, this beach is dog friendly!

7. Limanaki Beach: A Slice of Paradise

Limanaki Beach, nestled along the rugged coastline of Agistri Island, captivates visitors with its pristine beauty and tranquil ambiance.

Tucked away in a sheltered cove by the port, this picturesque beach boasts powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters that beckon sunseekers and swimmers alike.

The surrounding cliffs, adorned with vibrant greenery, provide a stunning backdrop against the azure sea, creating a scene straight out of a postcard.

With its unspoiled natural beauty and peaceful atmosphere, it’s no wonder that Limanaki Beach is considered one of the hidden treasures of Agistri Island.

Undeniably, the atmosphere at Limanaki Beach tends to be more relaxed and less crowded. This allows visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings without the hustle and bustle of larger tourist crowds.

Autumn/ Spring Packing List

Traveling in Greece during Autumn is really pretty! The weather is usually warm enough for a light jacket with a thin top underneath, although the evenings certainly pack a punch!

You will definitely need a jacket, and I advise you to carry it with you at all times!

The whole of Greece, but especially the Greek Islands comes alive in the summer so I can’t lie and tell you not to visit in the summer! (Unless you are a photographer wanting uninterrupted breathtaking views that is)

But the cities are all beautiful during Spring and Autumn and it’s business as usual during that time.

Athens and Thessaloniki are fantastic options and you can drive to Chalkidiki from Thessaloniki (about an hour’s drive)

Greece Packing List – Clothes and Shoes

• Jeans and leggings
• A maxi dress or skirt you can wear with chunkier shoes
• Trainers ( sneakers)
• A scarf
• Sleeveless t-shirts or vests and crop tops
• Thin layers you can use to layer up
• A cardigan or denim jacket
• A heavier jacket for the chilly evenings
• High or flat Heeled Boots for high-end restaurants and bars

Toiletries, Accessories and everything in between!

• Firstly, a handy travel jewelry box for all your essentials is key! I rave about this in all my posts, because it’s just so good!

• Secondly, a universal Travel Adapter is a no brainer for any smart traveler!

• An umbrella for those unpredictable downpours!
• Plastic Free Cotton Buds. Yeap you heard me! The world’s first plastic-free and reusable cotton swabs are here and I am beyond excited! • Medicine bag. Honestly, there’s nothing worse than being sick abroad and not finding a pharmacy in time!
• Packing cubes. I haven’t stopped going on and on about packing cubes since I received my own. Honestly, how did I ever pack without packing cubes? An ingenious product that helps you pack more, keep things utterly organized, and smell and crease-free. Take my money!

Summer In Greece Packing List

Traveling to Greece during the summer is a dream come true! People living in countries with a colder climate will definitely feel the heat though.

Temperatures in June, July, and August can go as high as 40 degrees and the climate is super dry and often humid, especially in the Greek Islands.

But trust me when I tell you; you will be too busy falling in love with Greece to care about being hot!

Summer Greece Packing List – Clothes and Shoes

• Mix-and-match bikinis and bathing suits are a must for any Greece packing list. This is especially true for islands boasting paradisical beaches like the Island of Milos in the Cyclades
• A pashmina for various reasons! You can use it to cover up at the beach and to visit the many Greek churches you will encounter. Furthermore, it is a light cover-up option for breezy nights.

• A lace beach cover-up is a multitask item you will use time and time again. Perfect for arriving and lunching in the beautiful beach clubs of Mykonos – and you can wear it over shorts or a dress for the evening too!

• Flip Flops and Sandals
• A jumpsuit for summer evenings
• Shorts – you will practically live in those so no Greece packing list can be without! Alternatively, pack a few light and airy summer dresses – I prefer those!
• Cute little skirts and crop tops sets that you can dress up or down

Toiletries and essentials

• Sunblock – an absolute necessity! Very intense sun such as the one in Greece can cause skin irritations you didn’t even know you had! This is why I swear by the Piz Buin Sun Allergy range – hands down the most effective sun lotion I have used. I haven’t had a single skin rash since. To top it off, my skin is kept moisturized to perfection eliminating peeling and my tan lasts longer!

• Packing cubes to make your Greece packing list a very easy affair.
• Including a travel adapter is probably the first thing to go in your luggage! As mentioned in my Greece Tips article, Greece uses type C and type F sockets, so you will likely need an adapter.
• travel jewelry box to store all your valuables safely and oh-so-stylish!
• A hat to protect from heatstroke!
• Mosquito repellent – if you value your life! I end up looking like A dalmatian puppy everywhere I go- mosquitos eat me alive!
• Good quality sunglasses to protect from the sun. I know you can get cheap glasses for the cost of a coffee but those don’t protect your eyes from the harmful sun rays.
• Mini containers to pack all essentials in a small form so you can only travel with a cabin bag if you so choose!
• Consider packing a Waterproof phone case as there is too much fun to be had in the water in Greece! Snorkeling, boat rides, and secluded caves are all begging to be photographed. This case makes sure your phone is kept dry and safe – no matter the circumstances!

Greece has an abundance of islands, ranging from somewhere around 1,200 to 6,000. The largest Greek island is Crete, which is located at the southern edge of the Aegean Sea. One of the smallest of the Ionian islands off the western coast of mainland Greece is Paxos.

So let’s dive right into this Greek Island Hopping Itinerary by diving the islands in categories!

Greek Island hopping Itinerary -Kyklades Islands

Mykonos, Santorini, and Milos are just a few of the most picture-perfect islands in Greece. Conveniently, they are all located in Kyklades. With direct ferry connections, they are convenient to combine in a single trip!

The Cyclades comprise about 220 islands, but the major ones are listed below. Any combination of these makes a breathtaking choice for the perfect Greek Island island-hopping itinerary

Amorgos.

This island boasts fabulous beaches and caves, classic Cycladic architecture, and a mind-blowing natural landscape.

Beautifully combined with Santorini! Catch a direct ferry that takes you to and from Santorini daily. The duration is 1.5 hours.

Undiscovered by mass tourism, Amorgos Island is one of the hidden gems of the Cyclades islands. It is perfect for nature lovers, and those wishing privacy and tranquillity.

Expect to find secluded beaches and beautiful hiking trails!

Anafi

Anafi is situated next to the stunningly gorgeous Santorini island, making it a perfect choice for your Greek island-hopping itinerary. There is a direct ferry from Santorini to Anafi that takes 1.5 hours.

Combining the two will give you very different experiences. Unlike Santorini, Anafi island still feels secluded and away from mass tourism – the opposite of Santorini.

This small island is all about secluded sandy beaches, wild nature, and a unique volcanic landscape!

You can explore the island on foot, and you could even camp there, making it ideal for budget travelers!

Milos

In love with paradisical and secret beaches? Then you will fall in love with Milos!

Milos is part of the Cyclades group of islands and one of my all-time favorite islands in Greece.

The most popular islands to visit after Milos include Kimolos, Folegandros, Sifnos, and Santorini.

Known as the island for beach lovers, you will need a car rental to uncover its beauties and mysteries.

Ideal for quieter individuals, couples, and families – this island offers moderate nightlife. Milos makes up for it with a lot of natural beauty, incredible food, and gorgeous Milos Accommodations

Andros

Andros Greece is very close to Athens – only a few hours ferry ride- making it very popular! Still, it somehow manages to keep its unspoiled charm intact.

The closest islands to Andros in Greece are Tinos, Mykonos and Syros

On this island, you’ll find traditional narrow alleys and old mansions as well as secluded villages with unspoiled nature and beaches.

Andros is a great island to combine with Athens making it a great addition to your Greek island-hopping itinerary

Antiparos

Antiparos is a beach paradise still under the radar and a fantastic island to combine with Paros.

The island is only accessible by ferry from Paros. You can combine it via ferry with any of the islands i am listing in this category ( Kyklades islands)

Famous for its crystal clear and mostly sandy beaches, you will find yourself relaxing and swimming daily.

Don’t miss a visit to one of the highlights of the island; the Antiparos cave! A cave that is full of beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.

2 days in Antiparos is an excellent amount of time to spend on the island. Having said that you can also visit for a day.

Delos

A unique and historical island that is very close to Mykonos. ( 1 hour ferry)

It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site for various reasons.

A few of those (and I quote): ”Delos is famous for both mythological and actual historical reasons. According to legend, Delos is the birthplace of Apollo and his sister Artemis. The mighty statue of Apollo was considered to be the most sacred site in Greece (only the base survives today).

The island was thus a destination for countless pilgrims, and not only hosted a famous oracle and the Delian Festival but also the main slave market of the Mediterranean world”

Visiting this island is a chance to walk around the revival of the glory of the Greek civilization. Nowhere else in the Globe is there a natural insular archaeological site of this size and importance.

No other island on Earth hosts so many monumental antiquities from the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods. It is a precious piece of Greek history!  

Delos is not a museum; nor is it here to tell a story. Delos is history itself.

Santoríni

One of the most stunning islands in Greece! Famous for its dramatic views and sunsets from Oia town, and the historical town of Thira.

Here you can taste a white variety of eggplant, and visit Santorini’s active volcano! Santorini is home to exquisite restaurants and a tireless nightlife scene that will please any foodie and party animal!

After Santorini, hop over to Folegandros (1 hour by ferry) and experience things at a slower more peaceful pace. Any of the Cycladic islands are very easily accessible from Santorini!

Folegandros

This enchanting island is a mere 1 hr boat ride from Santorini. Here, you can expect everything to be different… relaxed dining, stunning Aegean sunsets, and tranquil walks.

This tiny rocky island is just eight miles long and doesn’t offer major sights or historical monuments. But it offers something far more valuable; nature.

Stunning beaches, hidden secluded coves, crystal clear Aegean waters and to top it all off, mouthwatering cuisine.

Folegandros is perfect for relaxing, unwinding, and taking a step away from it all.

You can travel directly by ferry from Folegandros to the following islands:

• Amorgos.
• Anafi.
• Thirassia.
• Ios.
• Kea.
• Kimolos.
• Koufonisia.
• Kythnos.

Ios

Ios is a Cycladic island extremely popular with younger crowds for its lively party scene. But it has more to offer than clubbing.

Think of whitewashed houses, clifftop villages, breathtaking golden beaches, and cobblestone alleys.

After a day of lazily taking in the sun and swimming, the bars and restaurants come alive.

You can take it easy with a nice beachfront meal or lose yourself in the crazy night scene of Ios. Enjoy!

Mykonos

Want to party and live like a rockstar? Then look no further than the party island of Mykonos.

The ”windy island” is the most expensive and popular island in Greece. If you are on a tight budget or looking for seclusion, then I would visit elsewhere.

If however, you want to taste THE BEST food in Greece, and the most incredible beaches and beach bars? Then head to Mykonos.

On the island, you can expect elegance and luxury in the face of some of the many luxurious Mykonos Hotels. They are excellent, that will make you feel like royalty

Greek Island Hopping Itinerary – Other Beautiful Cyclades Islands

Kea

Visiting Kea Island in Greece offers a serene escape from the bustling mainland, with its rugged landscapes, crystal-clear waters, and charming villages waiting to be explored.

Kea is the Cycladic island that is closest to Athens. There is no airport on the island so it is reachable by ferry from Athens (1 hr)

Wander through the narrow cobblestone streets of Chora, the island’s capital, adorned with traditional whitewashed houses and vibrant bougainvillea.

Discover ancient treasures at the archaeological site of Karthea, where ancient temples overlook the sparkling Aegean Sea.

Kea’s pristine beaches beckon for relaxation and water activities, while hiking trails offer breathtaking views of the island’s untouched beauty. Whether seeking tranquility or adventure, Kea promises an unforgettable Greek island experience.

Kythnos (80 mins) and Syros islands (4 hrs) are also nearby!

Kimolos

Kimolos Island in Greece unveils a hidden gem in the Cyclades, where simplicity and natural beauty reign supreme. It is located closest to Milos (1hr) and Sifnos (1hr).

With its unspoiled beaches, charming villages, and rich history, Kimolos invites travelers to immerse themselves in its authentic Greek atmosphere.

Explore the picturesque capital of Chorio, with its labyrinthine streets and traditional Cycladic architecture, or relax on pristine shores such as Prassa Beach, renowned for its golden sands and crystalline waters.

The Ionian Islands lie off Greece’s western coast in a line from Zakynthos in the south to Corfu in the north. These islands have a distinct Italian flair and feel to them as Italy is in very close proximity!

Paxi

Paxi is made up of two islands – Paxos and Antipaxos. Paxi Islands, nestled in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece, offer a tranquil escape characterized by pristine beaches, crystalline waters, and lush greenery.

Lefkada

Lefkada is super touristy nowadays, but it is an absolute dream to visit! If you can rent a car and want to visit great beaches – Lefkada is the place to be.

Lefkada is also connected with the islands of Ithaca(2.20 hours) , Kefalonia (2.20 hrs) and Meganisi (45mins). The closest airport is Aktaion, located near Preveza, a lovely town on the Greek mainland

I absolutely ADORED Ithaka, and my favorite beach in the world – Schoinos Beach. The island is amazing to visit even as a day trip from Kefalonia (20mins).

Ithaka Island, steeped in mythology and natural splendor, offers a tranquil and idyllic retreat in the Ionian Sea.

Famed as the legendary home of Odysseus, Ithaka is shrouded in tales of adventure and romance. Its rugged coastline, dotted with secluded beaches and hidden coves, beckons visitors to explore its pristine shores.

An absolute gem of an island and a destination you probably learned all about from the novel and film ”Captain Corelli’s Mandolin”. Its beautiful landscapes seem untroubled by their new-found fame.

Close islands to hop from Kefalonia are Lefkada (70mins), Ithaca (20mins), and Zakynthos (3hrs) – perfect for your Greek Island Hopping Itinerary!

The beaches in Kefalonia are to die for and well worth a visit. It also boasts postcard-like villages like Assos in Kefalonia.

Zakynthos.

I distinctly remember my trip to Zakynthos. It was the time I realized the true meaning of seasickness after spending 8 hours on a ferry insisting I didn’t need sun protection or a break from the sun!

Nicely combined with visits to Kefalonia and Ithaki as mentioned above.

Zakynthos, also known as Zante, is a top destination for beach lovers. The beaches are regularly voted as some of the best in the world- and rightly so! Endless blue, endless beauty, endless paradise. Wildlife lovers will love the Caretta Caretta turtles the nest on the island, and party lovers will enjoy the wild party scene.

Located on the southern side of the Aegean Sea, Crete is the biggest of all Greek islands. Crete is also, hands down one of the most stunning islands in Greece! Unparalleled natural beauty and beaches, top-notch gastronomy, and rich culture all in one large, gorgeous destination.

Chania

The island of Chania is the most popular one in Crete and a very popular destination.

You can travel by ferry from Piraeus to Chania daily all year round. During the summer, you can also catch a high-speed vessel. It takes around 8 hours to reach the port of Souda in Chania.

On the island, you’ll find old buildings of Venetian design, various museums, archaeological sites churches, and crafts shops.

You can also hike the Mountain villages to really get a glimpse of the inner, local Greece. Some popular beaches are Ayia Marina and Ayioi Apostoloi.

Chania is a good option for the varied traveler who wants to do a lot more than just relax on the beach.

For this reason, and for the size of the island, you will need to rent a car.

 Heraklion

The capital of Greece, and also the largest island in Crete! The city town is as historical as it is bustling!

The ferry route from Piraeus to Heraklion is one of the most popular and frequent crossings. It’s available throughout the year and the average duration of the trip is 9 hours.

Mykonos is a 5hr ferry away and Santorini is 2hrs on a high-speed ferry

The easiest way to combine Chania and Heraklion is a car (2.5 hours).

In Heraklion, you’ll find Venetian harbors and fountains, fortresses, and busy town squares with shopping centers.

All this is perfectly framed by hotels, restaurants, bars, and beachfront taverns

Rethymno

Rethymno feels more like an island than a city – unline Chania and Heraklion.

The port of Rethymno is directly connected by ferry with Santorini (2.20hrs), Naxos (4hrs), Mykonos (5hrs), Paros (5hrs), Ios (4hrs), and other islands.

You will find the same Venetian influence of elegant architecture and picture-perfect port. There are beautiful beaches to explore such as the Ayia Galini and Adelianos Kampos.

Leros

Leros is a mythical island. According to the myth, Leros island was where the ancient Greek goddess of hunting, Artemis, used to go for hunting, thanks to the island’s large deer population.

The island is perfect for island hopping to Patmos (50mins), Kalymnos (45mins), and Lipsi (20 mins)

Leros is dotted with picturesque villages. The most popular of them are Alinda and Agia Marina, where many Leros hotels are located.

Saronic Islands

The Saronic Islands are very popular Greek islands for summer holidays and weekend breaks. This is because they are the closest Greek islands to Athens.

Spetses

It is a spectacular destination that exhumes sophisticated, quiet elegance.

This is an island boasting a long naval tradition and is famous for its significant contribution to the 1821 War of Independence. It was here that the revolution flag was raised on 3rd April 1821.

Spetses easily gets combined with trips to Athens (2hrs), Hydra (30mins), and Poros (1hr).

The island still retains its traditional character thanks to its well-preserved grand captain mansions – clear witnesses to the island’s glorious past.

You will love taking it easy on this island! I arrived in Spetses after a week in Mykonos and adored the quiet and simplicity of it all!

Rent a scooter and explore the little backstreets of the island. There, you will find the statue and house/museum of the Greek War of Independence heroine Laskarina Bouboulina.

Eastern Aegean Islands

The Eastern Aegean islands are located north of the Dodecanese and east of the Sporades and form the borders of Greece with Turkey. They are perfect for their family atmosphere, underdeveloped beauty, and traditional architecture.

Samos

Famed as the birthplace of the ancient mathematician Pythagoras and home to the Temple of Hera, Samos boasts a wealth of archaeological sites and historic landmarks too. If you love history, add Samos to your Greek Island Hopping Itinerary!

The island is quite far from Pireaus in Athens ( an 8 hr ferry ride to be precise) but you can catch a flight there from Athens, Heraclion, or Rhodes.

In Samo, there are picturesque seaside villages, such as Kokkari, Pythagorion, Karlovassi, and Heraion. The island is rather large and full of organized, non-organized, and nudist beaches. Some of the best are Potokaki, Tsamadou, and Lemonakia.

Explore the island’s charming villages with their traditional architecture, narrow cobblestone streets, and welcoming tavernas serving delicious local cuisine. Relax on pristine beaches or hike through lush forests and scenic trails offering breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea.

Via ferry, you can visit Ikaria ( 1.5 hrs), Fourni ( 2hrs), and Chios ( 3hrs).

Thassos

Visit Thassos for the perfect beaches and villages of stone-made houses, and quaint narrow streets. There are many hiking spots on the island, castles, monasteries, and caves to explore!

Located far from Athens (15hrs ferry ), Thassos is a popular family destination.

The nearest airport is Kavala International Airport “Alexander the Great” (KVA) and from there you can catch a ferry to Thassos which takes anywhere from 40 mins to 80 mins.

Famed for its natural beauty and rich history, Thassos entices visitors with its picturesque villages, olive groves, and ancient ruins.

Explore the island’s main town, Limenas, with its vibrant harbor, archaeological sites, and traditional tavernas serving mouthwatering Greek cuisine.

Ikaria

Ikaria is approximately 5 hours by ferry from Athens! Mykonos (2.25 hrs), Paros (2.50 hrs), Naxos (3.45 hrs), Patmos (1.15 hrs), Chios (6hrs), Samos (1.15 hrs) and Fourni (25 mins) are easily reached by direct ferryboat and there are connections every day during the season.

Explore charming villages like Agios Kirykos and Armenistis, where whitewashed houses cascade down hillsides and cozy tavernas offer delicious local cuisine.

Relax on secluded beaches like Seychelles and Nas, or hike through rugged mountains and lush forests to discover hidden waterfalls and breathtaking vistas.

Chios

From Lesbos, you can also travel by ferry to popular islands of the Cyclades, like Mykonos and Tinos.

Renowned for its picturesque landscapes, traditional villages, and olive groves, Lesvos invites travelers to explore its timeless charm.

Wander through the narrow streets of Mytilene, the island’s capital, where Byzantine and Ottoman influences blend seamlessly or relax on sandy beaches like Petra and Molyvos, framed by azure waters and verdant hillsides.

Lemnos (or Limnos)

You won’t feel like a stranded person though, there are some touristy spots too, and some perfect spots for windsurfing!

Lemnos International Airport “Hephaestus” receives domestic flights from Athens, Thessaloniki, Ikaria, Chios, Lesvos, Rhodes and Samos. During summer, the airport receives some charter flights from Heathrow in Britain.

The island is also connected by ferry with Ikaria, Chios, Rhodes, and Samos but they are all very far – over 7 hrs by ferry.

Renowned for its pristine beaches, traditional villages, and archaeological sites, Lemnos beckons travelers to explore its hidden treasures.

Discover the island’s main town, Myrina, with its picturesque harbor, neoclassical buildings, and imposing fortress overlooking the sea.

Relax on sandy beaches like Plati and Thanos, or hike through rugged terrain to uncover secluded coves and panoramic viewpoints.

Tias Tip: To reach Lemnos from Athens, it is best to take the ferry from Lavrion port, as Ferries depart all year round, 3 times per week, and the trip lasts 9 hours. There are ferries to Lemnos from Piraeus port, too but the trip lasts 24 hours. 

 Fourni

 This is an alternative holiday destination in the heart of nature away from it all! Budget travelers will love this island, especially hikers, free campers, and naturists.

Visiting Fourni Island offers an authentic and off-the-beaten-path Greek island experience.

Renowned for its pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and tranquil atmosphere, Fourni invites travelers to unwind and explore its natural beauty. Discover secluded coves and hidden bays accessible only by boat, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing.

Explore charming villages like Fourni Town and Kampi, where whitewashed houses and narrow streets exude traditional Cycladic charm.

The only way to reach the island of Fourni is by ferry. There are ferries to Fourni from Piraeus (7.45 hrs) and other islands of the Aegean. The closest airports to Fourni are in Samos and Ikaria islands.

Greece is one of the dream holiday destinations in the world, and the Greek islands hold the type of breathtaking beauty you would be hard-pushed to find anywhere else.

Islands such as Milos and Mykonos will forever remain in your heart and mind. And to get to these magical Greek Islands…you pass through Athens.

Athens, the city of civilization, the city that invented the Olympics, democracy and medicine, and the home of the breathtaking Acropolis. This is the type of city you keep going back to – time and time again.

It’s chaotic, it’s historical, it’s pretty damn magical. There are so many things to do in Athens, and I have covered many of them in my Most unusual things to do in Athens Guide too.

So what better way to experience Greece than to devote a few days to Athens? And what better place to be, than the A for Athens Hotel

Where to stay in Athens – The A for Athens Hotel

Location

Set next to Monastiraki metro station, this unassuming hotel is 3 km from both the Acropolis of Athens and the National Archaeological Museum.

It is situated exactly opposite Monastiraki square, right in the heart of the city.

All of the glorious sights are within walking distance, as well as everything you can think of – cafes, cute Greek taverns, shops, and the type of night scene that never sleeps.

The Blue Suite

All the rooms at the A for Athens are pretty great but the 5th floor holds some special kind of magic.

On this floor, you get to book suites – specially designed with a color theme. I stayed at the Blue Suite on the 5th floor and simply fell in love!

A huge and beautiful suite, with a stand-in glass shower, and living room with a jacuzzi overlooking the Acropolis, are the first things you notice upon entering. 

There are two plasma TVs and a stunning bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe.

The veranda is pretty huge too and it comes with the best view in the city! There, you’ll find comfy armchairs and sun loungers for quick city tanning.

The Rooftop Bar and restaurant

Just one floor up from the suite is the A for Athens cocktail bar. Further on up is an exclusive rooftop bar and restaurant for dining under the stars.

Meals, wines, and cocktails are what this rooftop is known for!

Breakfast is served daily from 07:00-10:30  and is enriched with selected Greek products, all handmade and prepared exclusively by skilled chefs!

A gorgeous brunch a la carte menu is available from 11:00-19:00 and then the dinner service begins lasting until midnight.

Why you should visit Greece

Have you traveled to Greece?

If the answer is no, then Stop what you’re doing (Don’t be silly, read the blog first) – pack a bag, book a ticket and like, never come back.

Because as much as I love the tropics, there is something about the motherland that draws me so close!

Greece…. the land of sun and sea..friendly faces, ancient history, and the mighty Greek Feta.

Indeed, Greece is so wonderfully elusive, that you could spend several months island-hopping from place to place without feeling like you can ever choose a favorite.

Where In Greece Is Milos Island?

Milos is a volcanic island in the Aegean Sea, just north of Crete. It belongs to the Kyklades group of islands.

It is neighbored by famous islands like Mykonos, and Santorini and lesser-known gems like Folegandros, and Amorgos. My guide on Greek Island Hopping is my most popular one yet, so be sure to check it out!

What is Milos Greece Known For?

The island is famous for the statue of Aphrodite (the “Venus de Milo“, now in the Louvre).

It is also known for its statues of the Greek God Asclepius (now in the British Museum), the Poseidon statue, and an archaic Apollo in Athens.

On that note, can you please stop stealing our history and return them back to us? Yes, British and French museums- I’m talking to you!  

Lastly, Milos is a paradise for beach and landscape lovers, with some of the most breathtaking beaches!

Do I need a car in Milos?

I would recommend renting a car once there as many of the beaches are difficult to access via scooter!

If you choose to stay in Adamantas Port, every beach on this list is within a 10-20 min drive from there.

Generally speaking, you will be far more comfortable in a small car, and safer too.

Why I Chose to Visit Milos Greece

 I wanted a quieter island as I had already spent a month and a half in Thailand and Germany and needed to relax! 

Also, Milos is known to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Greece with over 35 beaches on the island!! If that’s not an invitation to explore then I don’t know what is.

I did little else other than beach hopping and eating for my entire week there and I gotta say that I fell in love with Milos Island!!

 Without further ado, keep reading for the 9 best beaches in Milos starting from the top down! 

The 9 Best Beaches In Milos

1. Tsigrado Beach

 This beach is at the top of my list because of its particularity.

Tsigrado Beach is all about raw beauty that seems unspoiled by human touch and a simply breathtaking view.  

To access this precious gem, you first have to climb down the mountain using a rope and a wooden ladder.

You then need to walk down a narrow passage and lastly, climb down another wooden staircase.  It’s a bit of a mission sure, but my God the views!!

Personally, I fell in love with the whole process, because let’s face it, If I liked normality, I would have chosen saner boyfriends!

 A few sources I found on the internet are complaining that the descent is too difficult or not worth the hassle.

In my opinion, unless you have serious mobility issues, this is simply not the case!  

Some of the best waters on the island are hidden away in this little cove beach.

No beach bars, no music, no sunbeds, and no shade.

Just nature, caves, and beauty beyond imagination.

Bring water, towels, snorkeling gear, and snacks. And if you need shade, bring an umbrella.

Because of its small size, It tends to get busy, fast.

Because it has no shade, I would advise a visit in the early morning or late afternoon!  

2. Sarakiniko Beach – Beaches in Milos

  Sarakiniko is one of the most photographed landscapes in the Aegean.

Naturally, it is also the most famous of all the beaches in Milos. And no wonder!

A common question is ”where are the white rocks in Milos? ” The answer is that Sarakiniko Beach is located on the north part of Milos Island.

Waves driven by north winds shape the white volcanic rocks into amazing shapes, and the area is often compared to a moonscape.

The beach is squeezed between magnificent, almost polished tall white rocks and cliffs.  The vast contrast of the two is so stunning it will take your breath away! 

This is another very small and non-organized beach (no umbrellas or sunbeds) and the waters are refreshingly cold.

  Sarakiniko Beach Tip

The North part of the island is known for its strong winds all year round.

Therefore, do try to catch it on a not-so-windy day if you plan on spending the day there!  

3. Beaches in Milos – FIriplaka Beach

 Firiplaka is probably the longest beach in Milos and another stunning location you should visit!

As it lies along the southern coastline of Milos Island, it is especially perfect on days when the wind is strong in the northern part.

This bite of heaven will not disappoint!  

  How to get there

You park your car on top of a cliff and begin walking down to this little cove- which almost feels like a private beach.

You then walk through the shallow waters and tiny stretches of sand to the rest of the beach.

That one is much bigger and perfectly organized with a beach bar, sunbeds, umbrellas, music, drinks, etc.  

The cliffs of Firiplaka will amaze you with their splendid colors of red, white, and yellow, clearly revealing the existence of minerals on the Island!

When I say organized beach, I don’t mean ”Cyprus” organized.

This is not a fashion show, there are no paparazzi! No one will charge you 50 euros for an umbrella and you don’t need to contour and highlight before you visit.

  I mean it’s got some form of modern-day ”civilization” and amenities, which a lot of other beaches on the island do not have.

Milos is chilled, so get with the flow kids!

Sunbeds cost around 10 euros for a sunbed and umbrella and they get taken super quick!  

  Firiplaka Beach Tip 2

Firiplaka is located only minutes away from my no.1 beach choice, Tsigrado.

You could spend the day in Firiplaka and pop down to Tsigrado in the late afternoon to avoid the crowds!  

4. Beaches in Milos – Provatas Beach

Provatas Beach is otherwise known as the Golden Beach.

Another gem beach in Milos that is located in the South of the Island, and safely tucked away from the Northern winds.  

• A  long beach of golden and red sand
• Intricate rock formations, hidden caves, and coves
• The stunning, clear emerald sea
• Easily accessible by car, it’s also organized with all amenities as well as picturesque little taverns and cafes.
• Sunbeds are cheap, about 5 euros for a sunbed and umbrellas

5. Firopotamos Beach – Beaches in Milos

 Located in the Nothern part of Milos, Firopotamos is a big favorite of mine. It was a gorgeous day, with stunning views! Everything about this location screams ”Greek Island Paradise”.

The picturesque little village doubles as a fishing dock. There are clear blue waters and a gorgeous little church at the top of the hill.

It’s very small, surrounded by a few houses called ”sirmata” build right along the edge of the water. So pretty!

There is a big cliff you can dive from and these little steps take you to the bottom level where the actual beach is.    

  The beach itself has big puffs instead of sun loungers and straw umbrellas.

It is sometimes serviced by a pop-up beach bar. I say sometimes because they don’t like to work every day haha.  

So take your water and a snack just in case!! 

Lots of pebbles along with sand, which I don’t usually love but the pebbles were all pink and purple which made it all the more gorgeous!

  Firopotamos Beach Tip

If you are a fan of meditation or simply love the sound of crashing waves, I got a tip!

Walk to the far left of the beach to find the perfect little spot for a bit of quiet time and recollection. Must see for sure x  

6. Agios Sostis Beach – Beaches in Milos

  Quiet, charming, and unapologetically Greek, Ayios Sostis is situated just a few hundred meters from Provatas Beach.

This is another non-organized beach and small in size but oh-so-gorgeous.  

Nothing screams ”Greek Island” more than a beach with a fishing boat parked in front of a little tavern.

Especially when the tavern is serving the best Greek salad in Milos, and gorgeous fresh mussels cooked in wine.

There is a long circular set of steps that take you down to the edge of the water where you can park yourself for the afternoon.

7.Agia Kyriaki Beach.

Located on the southern side of Milos, this is a relaxed sand & pebble beach with clear, shallow water & a casual taverna serving local specialties

8. Paliochori Beach.

Easily one of the most famous beaches in Milos, Paliochori, is made up of three separate sections around an elongated bay.

The main beach is modernized, with sun loungers, umbrellas, and restaurants. During high season, it gets exceptionally busy!

The eastern and western beaches of Paliochori can be reached by walking along the shore, or through the actual water.

9. The very famous Kleftiko.

Kleftiko is only accessible by boat and is part of a full-day tour. It’s a fantastic day out, and you will get to see Kleftiko and other gems in Milos that are only accessible by boat.

Kleftiko ( or Bandit’s Lair) is famous for its crystal-clear water, elaborate caves, and imposing rock formations! A sailboat will stop there for 2-4 hours for swimming, snorkeling, and a Greek cookout on the beach!

Prices for the full-day boat tour of Kleftiko are approximately 65-90 euros and are best enjoyed on not-so-windy days!

My Milos Impressions

Milos is truly a beautiful, unique, and quiet island! It is perfect for couples, or families with children.

While there are bars and clubs, it certainly doesn’t offer a party island kind of vibe!

But it certainly provides so much more in terms of beauty, serenity, and relaxation.  

If you are a fan of the beach and nature, a trip to Milos should be on your immediate travel plans!
