We Cypriots are known for our delicious food and of course, the Cyprus taverns that serve us the all-mighty Cyprus meze, practically famous all over the world!

Cyprus meze is the equivalent of Spanish tapas…but bigger. This is a set menu, that consists of over 20 Cyprus dishes in smaller plates arriving at your table each one more mouthwatering than the last!

Whilst filming my online travel show Tia Does Agrotourism I got to eat at some of the finest Cyprus taverns in the mountains and villages of the island.

And seeing as it is my most asked question from you guys, I thought id write a post about it!

So without further ado, let’s explore Cyprus Meze, and the best Cyprus taverns on Cyprus’s fascinating agrotourism scene.

Cyprus Meze – Limassol Villages

Symposio Tavern – Pelendri Village

At Symposio you can try 18 hr slow-cooked Kleftiko with koumantaria cooked in the traditional wood-fired oven, ‘’Antikristo’’, smoked ribs, and a lot of locally sourced, organic seasonal produce from the family’s small farm.

Although the traditional meze is the star of the show, a la carte, vegan and vegetarian options are also available.

The seasonal menu changes all the time so be prepared for surprise additions to the menu, like ”Morchelles” – a rare mushroom that grows in the area!

Cyprus taverns – Takis Tavern – Vouni Village

Takis Tavern serves delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner! I tried both the Cypriot breakfast and Cyprus meze too, and I totally recommend both!

Cyprus Meze -Ampelothea Tavern – Omodos Village

 At Ampelothea, I have to say, I probably ate the best Cyprus meze in a while! The kind of food that even if you have already eaten yourself into a comma, you are sad to stop eating!

It is Cypriot Meze at its finest with well-cooked food, and true Cypriot recipes that go far beyond souvlaki and tzatziki! Arrive, hungry, relax, and enjoy!

Cyprus taverns Kafe Arsos – Arsos Village

You probably think I wrote this down by accident… NOP! Don’t be fooled by the sign that says ”cafe”.

Want to eat incredible Cyprus meze? ? Drink cold beer? Then book a table – and thank me later!

Located right in the center of the square, you’ve got lunch with a view too. Yum!

Kyperia Tavern – Kyperounta Village

A tavern and bar, Kyperia serves meze alongside other gorgeous dishes too!

Everything is served fresh out the pan, so it arrives when it’s ready – and not a minute before.

Definitely recommend trying the Pork with apples and koumantaria sauce (sweet port wine) – it was phenomenal!

Ouzeri Ayia Marina – Kyperounta

When a man who is born and raised in Paphos moves to Kyperounta village…you get fresh fish in the village!

In fact, he is so commited to providing only the freshest fish, that he drives the 96 km to Paphos four times a week to buy the best, seasonal fresh fish for his restaurant.

The fish is fresh, tender and cooked to perfection! Great salads, fresh Cypriot potatoes, and plenty of ouzo to wash it all down.

Tia’s Special Addition – Skylight Restaurant – Platres Village

Skylight is not a Cyprus tavern – it is a fine dining restaurant that ALSO offers meze – which I did not personally try.

I had the steak Diane, mussels, pork in koumantaria sauce and they were excellent. So I’m adding it here as I think its worth a mention!

Ais Giorkis Tavern – Kakopetria

A beautiful and successful mix of Cyprus and Cretan Cuisine that is worth a visit!

Every mouthful is a culinary journey through Greece’s and Cyprus’s incredibly history and food culture.

The snails, feta saganaki in tomato marmalade, Cretan «antikristo», and the homemade orange pie dessert steal the show.

Stou Zoppi – Kakopetria

A large tavern with a beautiful garden that immediately feels like home!

The food is delicious, with the almighty Cyprus meze being elevated beautifully, and no dish left unserved, from Cyprus souvla, to keftedakia (fried meatballs), vine leaves, and more!

A quick inspection of the inside, reveals treasures from generations past – in the form of a huge collection of Cypriot household vintage memorabilia, that are as good as any museums!

Palio Cinema – Kalopanayiotis

Palio Cinema ( Old Cinema) incredible Cyprus Meze with indoor and outdoor seating. The homemade pastitsio dish is to die for and definitely not a dish you find in all Cyprus meze Cyprus taverns, so it deserves a mention!

Cyprus taverns – Aristotelio Hotel – Pedoulas

One of my absolute favorites, I have been singing Aristotelio’s praises all over my Instagram, and for good reason too! 

I had breakfast and lunch at Aristotelio, and they were both lavish affairs.

But what impressed me the most was the taste and quality of the food – I am telling you, it is perfection. Such warm hospitality from the hotel’s owners too – which makes everything so much more enjoyable!

Cyprus Meze – Ierampelos – Farmakas Village

Ierampelos Restaurant is a la carte on Fridays and Saturdays, then turns into a Cyprus meze hotspot on Sundays!

The food is definitely delicious – from meze to steaks, fish and so much more. There is a bakery on the premises too, that serves incredible Cypriot desserts – if you have any room left!

Cyprus Tavern – Larnaca Villages

Paliomoucharos – Agios Thedoros

Paliomouxtaros was recommended to me by a few people (you guys are legends!) and now I know why!

The fireplace was burning inside, the staff was super professional but friendly, and the restaurant is spacious and full of light.

They do a lot of their dishes by hand, and are rightly proud to be putting their own traditional spin on the much loved Cyprus Meze!

The macaroni is made by hand, the sausage is marinated in wine, and every item served is freshly cooked and utterly delicious. Nice desserts too, if you can bear to eat another mouthful that is!

10/10 for the food, and the service.

Cyprus Meze – Paphos Villages

Cyprus taverns – Sofias Traditional House – Letymbou

A must experience for sure! Sofia and Andreas own a traditional home that is a tavern, folklore museum, and Cyprus culture heaven!

They welcome you with open arms – bake their own bread, cook their own halloumi cheese all of which you can observe in the gorgeous courtyard.

Scrumptious meals are prepared fresh on the wood fire oven in the courtyard and served with a smile and the kind of Cypriot hospitality we are known for. Love!

Cyprus Meze – Viklaris – Peyeia (Avakas Gorge)

Not so much a Cyprus meze tavern, but this HAS to be mentioned as it is hands down the best souvla I have ever eaten in Cyprus (Sorry Uncle Takis!).

The food is simple – souvla, potatoes, and Cyprus salad – and my goodness it is a 10/10 for me!

Viklaris is next to the parking for Avakas Trail – so it is definitely convenient and can easily be combined.

You could either hike in the morning or afternoon, but I would suggest trying to catch the sunset at the restaurant – it is truly magical!

Cyprus taverns – Steratzia – kathikas

A new tavern in the village – with a large outdoor seating area, good prices, and excellent food.

It also boasts one of the best sunset views in the village so do try to catch the sunset if you can!

We opted for the meze – and devoured each freshly made dish as it came! The staff is polite, fast, and welcoming, and the chef and owner came out to greet the customers several times throughout the evening – always a nice touch!

Carry a light cardigan or a pashmina to cover up – it gets a bit windy at night!

Cyprus Meze – Larnaca Villages

Cyprus taverns – Retro Tavern – Kalavasos Village

You will find Retro Tavern in the center of Kalavasos village.

It’s a favorite with both visitors and locals alike, primarily because of the quality of the food and the modest prices!

This isn’t just a ”simple” tavern serving meat meze alone. There is also a rather sizeable a-la-carte menu and fish meze too.

Most importantly, I adored their willingness and ability to change dishes on the spot to suit vegetarians and lactose-free eaters! Highly appreciated, as we had celiacs, lactose intolerants, and a vegetarian on our table!

The 2 biggest life-saving items to have with you in Cyprus

Activated Charcoal tablets – to save your stomach from a multitude of sins. Such as heavy eating and drinking (you will likely do both), upset stomach, mild food poisoning, IBS flare-ups, diarrhea, nausea and more

A sun allergy sun lotion and after sun lotion. Everybody wants to tan beautifully. But the sun in Cyprus is incredibly low and intense, which can burn your skin in no time, and bring out all sorts of allergic sun reactions that can seriously ruin your holidays! This is the best sun allergy brand I have found – I have been using it for over 3 years now and no more sunburns and sunspots! The after-sun lotion doubles up as a tan intensifier too, winner! You cannot find the allergy range in Cyprus, so I buy mine off Amazon.

As I mentioned in my Cyprus Travel Blog article, you could spend dozens of days on the island and not run out of dishes, desserts, and local delicacies to try! The food here is colorful, extremely plentiful, and oh so indulgent! Perfectly seasoned meats, fresh seafood, vibrant vegetables, and crunchy salads are what you should expect to encounter. To top it all off, incredible deserts, fresh local fruit, and a great local wine scene put the cherry on an already stunning cake.

The secret to food in Cyprus? Simple! Rely on simple recipes to make the fresh ingredients shine through!

Medezes – Meze

Meat Meze

Let me start with the best Cyprus dish, shall I? Mezedes, otherwise known as Meze! Mezedes in Cyprus is an experience not to be missed. In fact, its utterly criminal to visit Cyprus and not indulge in meze – the greatest food in Cyprus of all time. The ”dish” is, in fact, a feast of 30+ ‘’small’’ and mouthwatering Cyprus dishes. These dishes come in batches, so pace yourselves, It doesn’t get much better than that! Due to the huge amounts of food, it is best to enjoy Mezedes at a slow and leisurely pace and I would take an activated charcoal tablet after my meal too to save my stomach! These tablets are a God-sent, as they eliminate indigestion, bloating, cramps, and gas from excess food! Best thing ever!

A meat meze tavern will continue with grilled meats such as pork chops and barbequed chicken and pork, spicy Loukanika sausages, kleftiko and delicious stewed dishes such as Stifado and Tavas. In the more traditional establishments, you may be offered watermelon, sweet pastries like pourekia, and fresh fruits to finish off the meal.

Tip for Vegans: Vegans, in particular, will probably enjoy the meat meze more as there are plenty of other side dishes and dips not containing animal produce! I have many friends who are perfectly content with the large salads, dips, side dishes and homemade bread and still leave the restaurant completely stuffed!

Fish meze

Fish meze is just as equally yummy as the meat meze although, the latter makes you appreciate the Cypriot cuisine that much more! This dish opts for the same philosophy of small dishes to share, much like Tapas in Spain. In a fish meze tavern, you’ll eat various fishes, seafood like mussels, oysters and prawns,  sea bream with olive oil and lemon dressing, cuttlefish as well as delicious calamari and octopus.

Prices are pretty much set at 20-25 euros per person and you do not even need to look at the menu. The menu is set and included everything so just say the magic word ‘’mezedes’’ and sit back and relax!

LOCALS TIP: taverns you give the option of a mixed fish and meat meze are touristic attractions and will not offer an authentic experience. An authentic restaurant will specialize in either one, or the other, not both! Luckily, in my Cyprus Itinerary Guide, I have my top choices for meat and fish taverns in every city in Cyprus, so make sure you check it out!

Cyprus Dishes – Meats

Kleftiko 

Kleftiko originates from Greece and its rich in history recipe will blow your mind. We marinate the lamb in olive garlic and lemon then wrapped in foil with potatoes and bay leaves and very slowly cooked in a traditional clay oven. The result is a phenomenal dish – with meat that falls off the bone and potatoes that melt in your mouth. Traditionally paired with Pourgouri (couscous in tomato sauce), Greek Yogurt, and Cypriot salad.

The history of the dish is that in times of war, soldiers from the mountains would be forced to steal lambs, bury the meat underground and cook it in makeshift fires to get rid of the smoke and smell and avoid detection. Served with bulgar wheat and traditional Cyprus salad – kleftiko is a local favorite and there are taverns dedicated to solely cooking that.

Souvla (chicken pork or lamb)

Behold souvla, Cypriots national, and most favorite dish by far! Souvla is large pieces of meat – traditionally pork or lamb – passed through large metal skewers and cooked on a traditional foukou (a charcoal grill).

We cook Souvla on every occasion possible – any National Holiday, birthdays, weddings and even on a plain old Sunday! This Cyprus dish is cooked outdoors by men (for a change haha!)

Sheftalies

 Sheftalia is a Cyprus dish you will only find in Cyprus! The dish is an oblong ball of spiced minced pork, shaped and wrapped in caul fat – the transparent membrane that surrounds a pig’s stomach. After that, it’s grilled to utter perfection. One bite and you will be in heaven, I guarantee you! If you are after trying traditional food in Cyprus, start with sheftalies!

Souvlaki 

Possibly the most popular quick and fast Cypriot dish in the country, souvlaki originated from Greece and in Cyprus, we love it just as much! Souvlaki is a mini version of souvla – so basically little square cubes of high-quality pork or chicken cooked in skewers. We serve souvlaki in a warm delicious Cyprus pitta bread stuffed with cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, lemon, and pickled vegetables. You can choose the dip of your choice, tzatziki, tahini, or plain yogurt! Meat wise, you can choose pork, chicken, or order a ”mix’; pitta of souvlaki with sheftalies! Its sooooo good I’m obsessed!

 Kefalaki (Lamb’s Head)

Ok, this might freak you out. But seasoned travelers and adventurous eaters, should dig right in! Kefalaki is a lambs head – cooked whole – either boiled with salt and lemon or cooked in the oven. You will only find it in very traditional restaurants and taverns!

Giros (Donner Kebab)

We all know that you can eat Kebab, in every corner of the earth. This shouldn’t stop you from eating in it Cyprus though! The bread is better, the meat is better, everything is so tasty and authentic that your future kebabs at home will lack in comparison. Giros is inexpensive and fast, which makes it a popular Cyprus dish! Choose from chicken, pork or beef and choose your dip and veggies for the pitta bread :).

Keftedes

Keftedes, or as my Italian friends like to call them, little balls of heaven! Cypriot keftedes are different than the ones found in Greece. Juicy pork mince long meatballs with egg are seasoned with spices, potato and bread and fried to the utmost perfection! Paired beautifully with plenty of lemon, bulgur wheat, salad, and a big ol’ dollop of yogurt! Yum!

Stifado – Rabbit Stew 

I’m sure UK folks right now, are gagging at the thought of us eating their pets! But it is true, in Cyprus, as well as Greece, we eat Stifado. a delicious rabbit stew, with an abundance of caramelized pearl onions and tomatoes. We add plenty of spices too; like wine, rosemary, cinnamon, and other spices. Pick up the thick sauce with fresh Cypriot bread, and enjoy!

Cyprus Dishes – Meat Dishes that can be altered for vegetarians and vegans

Koupepia (vine leaves) and Gemista

Gemista, translated to ”stuffed”. And that’s exactly what you get! Gemista is a dish of vegetables like green peppers, beef tomatoes, courgettes, and onions stuffed with mincemeat, rice, and herbs. In the dish, we add vine leaves- fresh green vine leaves stuffed with the same mixture and rolled in little packages. One stuffed, we cook them in a rich tomato sauce in the oven or in a crockpot.

This main dish is both delicious, and healthy! In Greece, gemista are served without the mincemeat, and in certain places in Cyprus, you can request the dish sans meat.

Mousakka

A traditional Greek and Cypriot dish similar to lasagna – but 10 times better. Just like lasagne, moussaka is a layered oven dish. The layers are zucchini, eggplant, potato, and pork mincemeat cooked in a tomato sauce like a bolognese sauce would. We then top with Bechamel sauce and bake it in the oven. A lengthy process, moussaka is a fussy dish, with extraordinary taste payout!

Cyprus Dishes – Dips

Tzatziki – vegetarian approved

Tzatziki is paired with practically EVERYTHING on this article! The ingredients are yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, dry mint, salt and olive oil.

Tahini – suitable for vegans and vegetarians

One of my utter favorites, tahini (or tashi in Cypriot dialect) is a dip made out of sesame paste, olive oil, garlic, and parsley. Tahini has a rich and slightly bitter taste that works beautifully with homemade bread and many of the grilled meats that Cyprus cuisine has to offer.

 Taramasalata – suitable for vegetarians

Taramosalata is an absolutely beautiful dip to pair with fish, bread, or during lent! Taramasalata is made from fish roe, olive oil, lemons, onions, and bread. Lastly, the dip can be found in a beige or pink form, although the paler the color, the better quality the dip!

Cyprus Dishes – Side Dishes

 Halloumi Cheese – Suitable for vegetarians

Everyone goes crazy about Halloumi cheese, an authentic Cyprus dish! Halloumi is a, brined, springy white cheese, with a texture similar to mozzarella or thick feta. Halloumi cheese has a strong, salty flavor, but its beauty shines through when the cheese is grilled, as that elevates its creamy texture!

Pastourma Sausage

Pastourmas is a Cyprus dish you will find in a meat meze! It is a spicy, cured beef village sausage, with red wine, whole peppercorns, garlic, and a variety of other spices. Buy them fresh from a village, or pop to any supermarket! You will find them conveniently vacuum packed ready to withstand the flight home!

Bulgar wheat (Pourgouri)

My IBS cries as I haven’t been allowed to touch this delicious Cyprus dish in over 5 years! We cook this starch, which is much like couscous, in a delicious fresh onion and tomato sauce. Pairs beautifully with village Cyprus yogurt. Suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Karaoli – Snails

Ok, I am fully aware that some of you are gagging at the thought. However, you only live once right? We cook the fresh snails in a rich onion and tomato sauce. We love to share this Cyprus dish in traditional taverns as part of a meze or in households all over Cyprus.

Avgolemono soup (Egg lemon rice soup)

In my household, Augolemono is a weekly staple, particularly in the colder months! This simple and gorgeous soup is made with rice and finished off in a creamy broth of egg and lemon. A local winter favorite! Suitable for vegetarians

Cypriot Salad 

Our salad is a Cypriot dish like the almighty Greek Salad with the addition of a few ingredients. Cypriot salad consists of lettuce, cabbage, caper leaves, onions, black olives, tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce. We Cypriot have this salad, with practically every meal, daily!

Potatoes 

I would advise you to eat as many potatoes as you can in Cyprus! We locals are blessed with some of the most delicious potatoes in the world and export them all around the world.

Tip: Avoid tourist traps restaurants, and eat local, or you WILL end up with second-rate food and frozen gross potatoes!

Cyprus Dishes – Fruits

Delicious sweet and fragrant local watermelon paired with halloumi cheese is a must-have Cyprus dish. The combination of sweet and savory is a local favorite! watermelons in Cyprus are huuuuge in size and utterly delicious! Secondly, I advise you to try the equally sweet melons and figs, cherries and apricots, pears, and nectarines, as well as the grapes, peaches, and kiwis!

Cyprus Dishes – Traditional Desserts

Bye Bye diet! There are so many traditional desserts in Cyprus, that as a result, it will be impossible to stick to a diet! Many of these desserts, share similarities with Eastern European desserts such as baklava, Pourekia, Machallepi, and many more.

Galaktompoureko 

A dessert that screams of Greece and Cyprus dishes! Galaktopoureko, is a creamy custard pie in a crispy filo pastry shell that’s baked in the oven.

Daktila (ladies Fingers)

Daktila means fingers, of crispy phyllo pastry with orange blossom water, almonds, cinnamon, and sugar. One stuffed, we fry them and drench them in syrup! Sounds like heaven right? That’s because it is babe.

Halvas 

A delicious dessert suitable for the fasting periods of the year, halva’s main ingredient is almonds – alongside honey, blossom water, cinnamon, vanilla, cloves and mastic ground and often, raisins. Delicious and refreshing!

Loukoumades

I called London my home for 11 years and I never run out of new tastes to try, food markets to explore and restaurants to eat in. This Quirky Restaurants London guide is only a small taste of the incredible food in London, but it sure packs a punch! Cross a few of these restaurants off your list on your next trip to London, and you’ll thank me later! Quirky Restaurants London – Chotto Matte – Soho

A fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine that provides a true culinary experience. The quirkiness comes in the form of the live cooking theatrics in the center of the restaurant. The quality and authenticness of the ingredients are impressive and the taste payoff is totally worth the experience. The star of Chocco Matte is most definitely fish, although vegan and meat dishes are very much available and plentiful! The experience is pretty unique – the waiters will help you create your bespoke order and will then organize the order of the dishes to be served.

Your order will arrive according to Chocco Matte’s philosophy: Eating colder, light-flavored dishes first, graduating to hotter, fuller flavors and ending the meal with sushi. ​Yum!

Location: 11-13 Frith Street, London W1D 4RB

Smokestak – Shoreditch

Hello, carnivore heaven!! If you are looking for some serious meat dishes, this quirky restaurant is the one for you! Smokestak is an incredibly stylish rustic barbecue joint with a bar and terrace. The menu is exploding with delicious dishes (and gluten-free options) like the fennel sausage, incredible bone marrow, and the signature boneless BBQ rib! Smokestak obviously specializes in smoky, slow-cooked meats, and the result is evident, in fantastic dishes like the beef brisket.

Bonus points for the great beer and cocktails and the polite staff! The restaurant is often packed, so making a reservation is adviced!

Location: 35 Sclater St, Shoreditch, London E1 6LB, United Kingdom

Quirky Restaurants London – Senor Ceviche, Carnaby Street

A quirky London restaurant that is all about fresh and healthy food with a Peruvian twist. From street food snacks and super fresh ceviches to fiery Peruvian barbecue and healthy super salads, you will adore Senor Ceviche. Furthermore, the Pachamanca Pork Ribs, fresh zingy ceviches, and tangy tiraditos are the perfect balance of healthy and indulgent, the way eating should be.

Location: Kingly Court, Carnaby, London W1B 5PW

Kiln – Soho

Thai food fit for kings! This incredibly quirky restaurant takes its name from its cooking method. The chefs cook in small clay kilns full of charcoal with a wok on top. If you are seated at the bar, you’ll get a first-class seat of the chefs at work!

The food is…outstanding! Incredible hake, monkfish, and red mullet, and the star of Kiln, glass noodles with pork belly and brown crab meat. Simply out of this world! Kiln is a marvelous, vibrant place and by Soho standards, it’s also reasonably priced. The taste payout is well worth the price tag, for Thai and Asian food lovers alike!

Location: 58 Brewer St, London W1F 9TL. Tip: They only take bookings for tables of four or more. So if you’re a two or a three you should get there early.

Quirky Restaurants London – Balthazar, Covent Garden

Breakfast? Lunch? Brunch? Afternoon tea? Well there you have it, welcome to Balthazar London! In the heart of Covent Garden, Balthazar is open all day, seven days a week, and offering great French bistro food, good wine, and outstanding service it is all about. Baked Whiskey lovers; you will be glad to find a selection of bottles from more than 15 states alongside classic cocktails that can be enjoyed pre-dinner or even late into the evening.

The quirkiness? Well, the all-new New York tea special of course! This American inspired tea is worthy of numerous Instagram snaps! Savories featuring classic New York ingredients such as a pastrami bun with egg, pickle, and mustard make you feel like you are back in New York! The signature baked cheesecake and the crowd-pleasing Cookies and Cream Tart close the deal in this beautiful spin on an afternoon tea.

Location: 4-6 Russell St, Covent Garden, London WC2B 5HZ, United Kingdom

BAO – Soho

Bao celebrates and elevates Taiwanese Food to a whole new level. Located in the heart of Soho, this quirky London restaurant draws inspiration from the Streetfood markets and Xiao Chi Houses in Taiwan. Here, you will find a selection of BAOs and unique takes on Xiao Chi.

How is it quirky you ask? Well, there’s a pig blood cake for the adventurous and a vast selection of dreamy non-alcoholic drinks, using foams, gradients, and Asian ingredients. The restaurant takes its name from its specialty;’ Bao Buns – delicious steamed buns of soft bread stuffed with pork belly, prawn or other ingredients and vegetables. Yum!

Location: 53 Lexington St, Soho, London W1F 9AS, United Kingdom

Fishers Fish and Chips – Chelsey

A taste of the world-famous fish and chips must be ticked off every visit! Fish and chips is a London classic and can be found practically everywhere. This doesn’t mean it will taste the same everywhere though. The fish and chips at the Fishers in Chelsey are to die for – succulent fish, crispy fries, mushy pies and creamy homemade tartare. Add a pint of beer, and there you have it; heaven! I lived in Chelsey for my last 6 years in London, and the Fishers became a regular spot for me. Highly recommended!

Location: Fishers, 19 Fulham High Street, SW6 3JH.

Jolly Butchers – Stoke Newington

Are you even in London, if you aren’t spending your Sunday in a pub devouring an English roast? The almighty Sunday roast is without a doubt the epitome of English cuisine and one of my favorite meals ever! Even now, leaving back in Cyprus, I cook a Sunday Roast every single week. Again, every pub worth its money serves a Sunday Roast. But after 11 years of living in London, I’ve had my share of stale, unseasoned, overcooked roasts to tell you, they don’t all taste as they should.

What is a roast dinner you ask?

The Sunday roast is a traditional British main meal that is typically served on Sunday, consisting of roasted meat, roast potato, and accompaniments such as Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, seasonal vegetables, and gravy sauce.

The Jolly Butchers offer one of the best roast dinners in London – period. Particularly famous for their generous servings of good quantity of meat, larger than life Yorkshires puddings, seasonal vegetables, and a gravy sauce to die for. The vegetarian nut roast is pretty special, as well as the leak and cheese wellington veggie roast- my veggie and vegan friends often rave about it! The meat menu offers choices of beef or pork (no chicken or turkey options here), and they are all available in kids’ portions too. Just gorgeous. If you choose ONE thing to eat in London, make sure it is an English Roast!

Mykonos Restaurant

Let’s get straight into discovering the best food on the island! In no order of importance, here are my top Mykonos Restaurant picks!

Ling Ling Mykonos

Ling-Ling is the Asian Fusion restaurant of your dreams.

Located in the old town center Ling Ling Mykonos has an open-air restaurant and bar, as well as a private dining and lounge area.

The Menu is Cantonese and comprised of various small dishes designed to be shared amongst friends.

Impressively enough, Ling Ling seamlessly manages to blend beautiful Asian Cuisine with the best local Greek ingredients.

World-class mixologists create innovative cocktails and the resident DJ does a fine job at entertainment!

The staff is also incredibly polite, quick, and knowledgeable!

There are also 3 set menu options for two, and although the prices are on the high end, every mouthwatering bite is worth the price tag. Yum!

As a result, Ling Ling quickly became my favorite Asian Mykonos restaurant!

Nus-Ret Mykonos

This incredible steakhouse belongs to the salt-bae chef who became a viral internet sensation.

If you are a meat lover, then I highly recommend a visit- although be warned, the price tag is high!

Cavo Tagoo

Located right next to my hotel – Kouros Hotel and Suites lies another excellent hotel, Cavo Tagoo Mykonos.

In this hotel, you will find an all-day lounge serving beautiful food, cocktails, and shisha.

Make an early dinner reservation at Cavo Tagoo and enjoy some of the best sunset views of the island,

accompanied by live classy entertainment, wine, cocktails, and gorgeous food.

Try out the lobster pasta, and the desserts – which I have to say were some of the best I had in Mykonos!

Principote Beach Bar- Lunch Restaurant

Although technically a beach club, here you will find a fine dining experience unlike any other.

Principote Mykonos is one of my favorite establishments on the island, and dare I say it, in all my travels!

When you visit, you will see that it exhumes elegance, class, luxury, service, beauty, and of course…incredible food.

It is no wonder it is also included in my Mykonos Beach Bars article – and a top contender at that!

Beautifully presented food, innovative recipes, organic fresh ingredients… I cannot recommend it enough!

The Incredible wine and champagne list completes the carefully crafted menu, for a mind-blowing dining sensation.

Have I found my favorite Mykonos Restaurant? I think I have!

Mykonos Restaurant – Passagi Beach Bar

Passaji offers a great gastronomic experience that celebrates the diversity and commonality of Greek, Italian, and Asian cuisine.

Pasaji means passage. From morning to dawn, it aims to do just that; create a passage through countries, kitchens, and aromas in an idyllic location on the beach.

Spend your day on the comfortable sunbeds and when it is time for your lunch reservation, move on up to the restaurant.

The menu is based on the purest local ingredients combined with the aromas of the East, creating a unique fusion menu inspired by Chefs John Vidalis and Stratos Chronakis.

The burgers and sushi options are particularly delicious!

Ftelia Beach Bar -Lunch

A new beach bar that is so unpretentious, you would think you’re not in Mykonos anymore!

Ftelia Beach is a surfer’s beach, with a beautiful and elegant beach bar that serves incredible food.

it is cheaper than the other beach bars mentioned above and so delicious that you will wanna eat there more than once!

At Ftelia Beach Bar, you will find a menu that celebrates Greek Cuisine at its finest, focusing on Aegean and Cycladic recipes.

Executive Chef Nikos Fotiadis is a Michelin Star title holder and has been honored with two Toques d’Or Awards by Athinorama.

And it makes sense, because simple things, like a lentil salad, were mind-blowingly delicious!

Highly recommend!

Lotus Resto Bar

Nothing cures a Mykonian hangover faster than a burger.

And Lotus Resto offers the Best Burger in Mykonos by FAR!

Chef Ilias Koulos nailed this burger- I wasn’t even particularly hungry when I ordered and I devoured the whole thing.

A soft, mouthwatering Angus beef burger, cooked to perfection. The bun was perfect, the cheese was perfect, and even the tomato was perfect, what is this witchcraft?!

Lotus Resto is so delicious it couldn’t go missing from my Mykonos Restaurant list! Yum!

Souvlaki Story

The humble souvlaki is a Greek way of life and no meal a tourist in Greece should ever miss.

For authentic souvlaki, gyro kebab, and some great vegetarian options too, Souvlaki Story is the place to be in Mykonos, located in the old town center, it is convenient, inexpensive, and oh so delicious!

 Kayak Ice Cream

No great meal is complete without dessert and no holiday is worth mentioning unless you have indulged a little bit.

Enter Kayak, serving the best ice cream in Mykonos! Kayak Ice Cream is all about fresh Greek ingredients that result in pure and mouthwatering ice cream.

Highly Recommend it for those lazy afternoons spent strolling the old town and shops.

Without further ado, here are the 13 Places all French fry lovers must visit at least once in their lives! If you are ever in these cities, don’t miss a visit to this fabulous shops taking French fry on a whole other level.

1. Food and Travel -Maison Antoine – Belgium. (Called Belgium Fries).

This place in Belgium deserves first place – because did you know ‘’French Fries’’ actually originated in Belgium and not France? Maison Antoine, is the oldest fry shop in Belgium. It is located in the heart of Brussels and serves up generous portions of delicious crispy fries with a variety of sauce toppings for as little at 3 Euros. Maison Antoine gets extra Bonus Points for their great Belgian Beer that you can enjoy on their terrace, overlooking the city. Bliss.

2. Vleminckx – Amsterdam. (Called Patat) 

Located down an alley close to the Spui Tram Station, Vleminckx is a small shop that ONLY serves fries. The Fries are cooked in 3 different types of fryers of different temperatures to ensure the perfect crisp. Served in white, cone-shaped cups, these delicious fries can be topped with any of their 28 globally inspired sauces. Be prepared to queue- this place is busy !!

3. Food and Travel – Pont Neuf  – Paris (called Pommes Frites).

Pont Neuf in Paris is straight to the point. Their menu is simple- a small or big portion of incredibly crispy French fries, with a choice of 6 sauces like their signature iodized Port Neuf sauce. Alternatively choose from classics like béarnaise, mustard, ketchup or mayonnaise. What makes them different is their choice of accompaniments! Choose from Paris Ham, Pastrami, Fish or chicken fritters or shrimp croquette and make a real meal out of your Pont Neuf Experience.

 4. Poptata – London (Called Chips).

Freshly cut premium potatoes, double fried to perfection. England, the country of the almighty fish and chips could not be off this list of best fry places. English people know, and love their fries! At Poptata you start by choosing between a small, medium or a large portion of fries. You then proceed to choose sauces – cheddar, caramelized onions, curry or BBQ being only a few of the options. Finish off with toppings like smashed avocado, halloumi or delicious goat cheese and you are good to go! Poptata has stores in Shoreditch. Portobello Market, Croydon and Tooting Market. I would expect anything less, from London, the food capital of the world!!

5. Food and Travel – Awesome Chips – Birmingham and Leicester.

Served in cones and suitable for vegetarians, Awesome Chips serves only…chips! Belgian potatoes are double fried to perfection and served in cones of  Small, regular or large size. Sweet potato chips are also on the menu! There are over 30 sauces on the menu, from curry ketchup to garlic aioli and even vegan mayo and vegan dairy-free cheese! Finish off your order with a choice of the 16 spices from all around the world – Jamaican Jerk, wasabi Mix, Thai Spice, Mexican Fajita and the list goes on!

TIP: Awesome Chips, now has a store in Londons Wood Green Area too – aka the Greek and Cypriot area of London.

6.Frites Atelier – The Hague, Netherlands. (called frites)

  Frites Atelier evolved from a love for French fries and perfect sauces. A gourmet looking eaterie run by3 Michelin awarded chef Sergio Herman, this place lives up to its gourmet name.. Potatoes are sourced from Zeeland, and are served with their skin on with homemade sauces like deep truffle, French Bernaise, Andalouse and more. Every season, the chef creates a limited edition special that is available for a short time too – the seasonal tomato, basil and parmesan frites are a dream.

7. Food and Travel – Pommes Frites – New York City

A little more on the expensive side, in comparison to the previously mentioned places in Europe. However, if you’ve been to New York City, you’ll know that’s the case with most things! Pommes Frites double fries their authentic Belgian potatoes in high-quality gluten-free vegetable oil. It then serves them up with over 35 of their Famous homemade sauces that you can mix and match. Also available for take away.

8. Boise Fry Company – Idaho & Oregon USA

Boise does not mess about when it comes to potatoes! Your order is custom made from beginning to end. On their menu, you will find 6 different types of potatoes to choose from: Russet purple, gold, sweet, red and even yams! You can choose from 6 different types of cuts too, and if you fancy a larger meal, Boise serves up beef, bison, turkey and vegan burgers too! Arrive hungry..preferably starving as the portions are 100% American!

9.Food and Travel – Elbows Mac n’ Cheese – California

As the name suggests, this place specializes in the American Favorite, Mac and Cheese. They also serve a gluten-free mac and cheese as well are gluten-free sandwiches)! Elbows Mac n’ Cheese also serves my favorite- huge tornado potatoes! Essentially a potato thinly sliced around a giant chopstick, fried then loaded with spices and sauces is to die for – and the pictures are totally Instagram worthy too.

10. Moo Frites – Toronto, Canada.  

Moo Frites not only fries their chips in beef fat, but they also serve them up in some interesting and adventurous combinations inspired by many nationalities. Kimchi fries with Korean Kimchi, Japo Frites with Japanese Seaweed, Nacho Frites from Mexican Nachos and the list goes on! There’s weird and exciting ingredients like dutch peanut sauce, curry ketchup, jalapenos and more. They also serve up POUTINE – fries loaded with double-layered cheese and beef gravy !

Some Facts About Veganism in Jordan

Simply put, the concept of veganism is not particularly understood in Jordan. They understand vegetarians yes, but not vegans.

In addition, Jordanians definitely love their meat.

But actually, the local cuisine is based on vegetables, pulses, and beans and as a result, it’s easy to stick to a vegan and vegetarian lifestyle.

In Amman, there are also restaurants that specifically offer vegan food and desserts.

Can you find vegan food in Jordan?

Food in Jordan is plentiful, colorful, and delicious, and many of the local delicacies are vegan and vegetarian by nature.

We had no problem steering clear of meat, even though I also suffer from IBS and lactose intolerance.

I did have some trouble in certain areas of Jordan, and I am in the process of writing an article about traveling with food allergies!

So without further ado, here is Vegan Jordan! A guide to delicious veggie and vegan food you can find in almost every restaurant in Jordan.

This also comes with recommendations about where to eat in Amman, the capital of Jordan.

1. Traditional Jordanian Food – Vegan Jordan

The most traditional type of food in Jordan is called Meze.

Similar to Greek and Cypriot style meze, the Jordanian version is packed with salads, dips, and homemade bread.

This, of course, makes it an excellent meal choice for vegetarians and vegans.

2. Dips – Jordanian Meze                                               

• Hummus – Ridiculously delicious and naturally vegan, Hummus consists of Chickpeas, lemon, and olive oil. Hummus is a billion-dollar business in Jordan, and they absolutely excel at it.
• Baba Ghanoush – A dip of roasted aubergine, chili, onion, and tomatoes.
• Muttabal – A dish that’s Similar to Baba Ghanoush but with fewer ingredients. Muttabal is made of Aubergine, tahini, and lemon.
• Tahini with parsley – aka heaven to your tastebuds! (Allergy Note: Tahini is made with sesame seeds)
• Galayat Bandura – A spicy tomato dip with pine nuts.
• Cheese Fatayer –Delicious little boats of bread filled with melted cheese and baked in the oven. ( Vegetarian, not vegan)
• Labneh –A type of strained, thick yogurt, similar to Greek Yogurt. Allergy Note: Contains Lactose.

3. Bread – Jordanian Meze

• Jordanian flatbread – The most common local type of bread! it is typically found in every restaurant and household and served with every meze
• Pitta Bread (khubz) – Khubz is served warm and delicious, and tastes the same as Cypriot Pitta Bread.
• Shrak – A Jordanian Flatbread baked by the Bedouins in Jordan.

4. Salads – Jordanian Meze

Salads are plentiful and packed with fresh veggies and exciting tastes. Just a few of those are:

• Arabic salad – finely diced tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and parsley
• Fattoush – A salad similar to the Arabic salad but with added radish and toasted pitta bread.
• Tabouleh – parsley, bulgur wheat, tomatoes, and onions.

5. Small bites and vegan Jordanian Appetizers

• Scrambled Eggs and potatoes. A vegetarian dish, not vegan.
• Vine leaves stuffed with rice and spices.
• Olives of all colors and sizes
• Falafel – fried balls made with chickpea, and spices. Falafels are a staple in Jordan and are out of this world delicious. They are eaten as part of a meze, as the main dish, or in a falafel Sandwich with salad and dip of your choosing (usually hummus). They are easy and quick to make and an extremely cheap dish. A large falafel sandwich can cost you as little as 1 Euro!

Vegan Jordan Restaurants in Amman – For Vegans and Vegetarians

Amman is the capital of Jordan and a city that offers the biggest variety of vegan food in Jordan.

From delicious desserts to dairy-free kinds of milk, and vegan curries, there are options out there that are worth a try!

As a result, I am including a list of other restaurants in Amman that I know you’ll enjoy trying.

Note: The restaurants below are not all strictly vegan. Their menus are simply such, that also cater to vegan needs and tastes.

6. Bourj Al Hamam

Visit here if you want excellent Lebanese cuisine! Great grilled fish options for pescatarians and various vegan options too.

7. Nasim Restaurant

Nasim – Nasim is a restaurant that offers all the traditions of Jordanian cuisine and strong authentic shisha.

After your meal, enjoy shisha and a drink on their lovely terrace.

8. Primal Restaurant

Primal – A fantastic restaurant dedicated to cooking up delicious vegan and paleo food.

Expect to find dishes like risottos, curries, and eggplant Caprese – all paleo, vegan and Gluten-Free.

You should also save room to try the delicious desserts!

Dig into the apple pie with coconut cream and vegan chocolate tart. Or finish off with coffee with dairy-free milk.

The fact that this is one of the very few non-smoking establishments in Jordan deserves a mention too!

9. Mighty Burgers

Mighty Burgers – Meat and vegan burgers alike – and delicious! Please make sure you specify no cheese in your vegan burger.

10, Four Winters Desserts

Four winters – This is a fantastic place to go for ice cream! At Four Winters, you will find only two vegan ice cream flavors!

however, both the coconut and dark chocolate taste fabulous delicious!

11. Halal’s Treats.

At Halal’s you will find excellent vegan desserts for that sweet craving.

For instance, they are pretty famous for their carrot cake here, but the cookies and vegan cakes are also worth a try. Tip: good for small groups as it only offers 21 seats.

But as street food goes, I do have some advice

• Observe. Take your time to choose the right vendor. If there is no line – leave. If there are only tourists ordering- leave! Find a vendor that has a long queue of both tourists and locals. Observe them for 5 minutes, how they cook and clean their station and things like: Are there any flies sitting on cooked food? Did the cook wipe their nose?If so, get out pronto and your belly will thank you.
• Watch your food being cooked. Avoid bigger vendors that will bring cooked food from the back. That food might have been sitting there for hours!Choose one where you can see them cook right in front of your eyes.

Avoid Drinks containing water and Ice

• Aka – smoothies ( i know better now). We do not have the antibodies for that!
• Only eat fruits and veg that can be peeled in front of your eyes
