<p class="has-medium-font-size">In this Istanbul photography Article, you will find the most beautiful pictures of Istanbul. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">These iconic images will make you fall in love with this multicultural wonder city.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">After all, a picture is worth a thousand words, and while we bloggers want to give you every bit of information we can, it is sometimes nice to let the lens do the talking!</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">I encountered so much beauty in Istanbul, that even though I was cold for the entire trip I wanted to be outdoors all the time!</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">One trip, a thousand pictures, and a million memories made</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="837" height="628" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/15-1.jpg?resize=837%2C628&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-8691" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/15-1.jpg?w=837&amp;ssl=1 837w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/15-1.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/15-1.jpg?resize=768%2C576&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/15-1.jpg?resize=585%2C439&amp;ssl=1 585w" sizes="(max-width: 837px) 100vw, 837px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="why-is-istanbul-so-photogenic">Why is Istanbul so photogenic?</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">There is beautiful architecture everywhere, clear signs of the Greeks and Ottomans. There is a certain flair in the air, an eclecticism.  </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">You will see colors; so many colors! Food markets bursting at the seams with colorful produce and spice racks overflowing with Istanbul&#8217;s finest herbs and spices.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Strolling through the city you will witness street art, majestic churches like <a href="https://ayasofyamuzesi.gov.tr/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Haya Sofia</a> and mosques, and urban shopping streets. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Istanbul manages to marry the old and the new in a fascinating, vibrant package, one you can’t help but fall in love with.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">My Istanbul photography post might just be enough to make you book a ticket! </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">But if you want to find out what to also do in Istanbul check out my <a href="https://www.tiadoestravel.com/blog/istanbul-off-the-beaten-path" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Istanbul off-the-beaten path guide</a>!</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" decoding="async" width="628" height="919" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/14-1.jpg?resize=628%2C919&#038;ssl=1" alt="" class="wp-image-8692" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/14-1.jpg?w=628&amp;ssl=1 628w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/14-1.jpg?resize=205%2C300&amp;ssl=1 205w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/14-1.jpg?resize=585%2C856&amp;ssl=1 585w" sizes="(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="istanbul-photography-the-majestic-hagia-sophia">Istanbul Photography &#8211; The Majestic Hagia Sophia </h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">What is there to say about the INCREDIBLE<strong> <a href="https://www.britannica.com/topic/Hagia-Sophia" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hagia Sophia</a></strong>? </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Also known as the <strong>Church of the Holy Wisdom</strong> or <strong>Church of the Divine Wisdom</strong>, we are talking about an important Byzantine structure and one of the world’s great monuments. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">It was built as a Christian church in the 6th century CE (532–537) under the direction of the Byzantine emperor Justinian I.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">After the fall of Costantinople ( the real name of Istanbul) to the Turks in 1453, it was turned into a mosque and in 1935 into a museum. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Then in 1985 the Hagia Sophia was designated a component of a UNESCO World Heritage site called the Historic Areas of Istanbul</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">In 2020 though, President Erdogan made the controversial decision to convert the Hagia Sophia back into a mosque. It makes me wonder, where was UNESCO then? </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Who could have the audacity to convert one of the most celebrated and influential monuments of Christianity into a mosque? And actually get away with it? </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">As you can probably tell, it is a bitter subject for us Greeks and Cypriots. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Bear in mind that the Blue Mosque is built directly opposite Hagia Sophia. Until the completion of Blue Mosque in 1616 the Hagia Sophia was the main mosque in the city. Its architecture directly inspired builders of the Blue Mosque and several others around the world.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-beautiful-blue-mosque">The Beautiful Blue Mosque</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">The Blue Mosque, also known as the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, is an Ottoman-era historical imperial mosque. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">It is very much a functioning mosque, whilst also attracting a lot of tourists. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size"> It was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I, and it is built opposite the majestic ( and VERY Greek) Hagia Sofia. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-is-unusual-about-the-city-of-istanbul">What is unusual about the city of Istanbul</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Istanbul has been the&nbsp;<strong>capital</strong>&nbsp;of some of the biggest empires: Roman, Byzantine, Latin, and Ottoman. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Istanbul&nbsp;is one of the few cities in the world to be shared by two continents.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Five of the most well-known transcontinental cities are&nbsp;<strong>Istanbul, Atyrau, Orenburg, Magnitogorsk, and Suez</strong>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="what-should-i-avoid-in-istanbul">What should I avoid in Istanbul?</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Well for starters, you should avoid getting scammed! Istanbul is notorious for scamming tourists. But fear not as I have an article full of the <strong><a href="https://www.tiadoestravel.com/travel/asia/turkey/istanbul-scams/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Istanbul scams you should know about! </a></strong></p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Other tips would be: </p>

<ul class="has-medium-font-size wp-block-list"><li>Avoid Shopping at Istiklal street &#8211; It is rather expensive and doesn&#8217;t offer anything unique</li><li>Don&#8217;t take the tram in Istiklal street &#8211; It is so crowded! </li><li>Never pay full price for anything at the Bazaars </li></ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="how-can-i-have-fun-in-istanbul">How can I have fun in Istanbul?</h2>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">There are so many fun things to do in Istanbul! Apart from world-famous monuments and exquisite cuisine, there are historic cruises, and shopping sprees at the Grand Bazaar too! </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Additionally, there is fascinating history and architecture, buzzing nightlife, street art, and amazing workshops. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Istanbul indeed has a lot more to offer.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">My guide to the most unusual things to do in Istanbul is a journey through Istanbul’s off-the-beaten-path side! </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">It&#8217;s a taste of the local side, which in my opinion holds the real juice and flavor of this incredible multicultural city. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">When you start experiencing travel off the beaten path, the whole travel game changes!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="the-13-most-unusual-things-to-do-in-istanbul">The 13 Most Unusual things to do in Istanbul</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="1-take-a-boat-trip-to-the-princes-islands-and-the-lesser-known-burgazada-island">1. Take a boat trip to the Princes Islands and the lesser-known Burgazada Island</h3>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Take a day trip away from the busy city to explore the beautiful Princes Islands – an archipelago of 9 islands located in the Sea of Marmara. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">The prince’s islands are easily accessible via ferry, and they are home to many multicultural beauties. Some of those are the Greek monasteries and Ottoman architecture. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">Burgazada is one of the lesser-known islands (the biggest one is the island of Buyukada) and so it is a perfect island for some much-needed beach time. The water is calm and clear and the island is calm and secluded.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img data-recalc-dims="1" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="942" height="628" src="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?resize=942%2C628&#038;ssl=1" alt="The princes islands - unusual things to do in Istanbul" class="wp-image-8756" srcset="https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?w=942&amp;ssl=1 942w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?resize=300%2C200&amp;ssl=1 300w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?resize=768%2C512&amp;ssl=1 768w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?resize=585%2C390&amp;ssl=1 585w, https://i0.wp.com/www.tiadoestravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/princes-islands-1848737_1920.jpg?resize=263%2C175&amp;ssl=1 263w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 942px) 100vw, 942px" /></figure>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">I advise you to spend the day there and soak up the sun! Then, you should start exploring the island! </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">You will find lush greenery, many historical churches such as the Ayios Ioannis church (dating back to the Byzantine period), and also the ruins of the Greek Christos Monastery from the 9th century. </p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">At the top of the hill, Bayrak Hill is the place to go for beautiful panoramic views. All these and more await you to explore the island of Burgazada. &nbsp;</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading" id="here-are-some-trevi-fountain-f">Here are some Trevi Fountain facts.</h4>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">1. La Fontana Di Trevi was fully restored in 2015 by none other than Fendi &#8211; the Iconic fashion house! Fendi reportedly spent over 2million Euros for the full historical restoration making headlines all over the world!&nbsp; The unveiling of La Fontana Di Trevi happened in November of 2015 and was one of the biggest events in the city.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">2. The fountain dates back to 19 B.C and was the oldest water source in Rome.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">3. La Fontana Di Trevi is a landmark used in many movies, such as La Dolce Vita, Roman Holiday, Three Coins in the fountain and more.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">4. The coins are collected every day (approximately 3-4 thousand Euros) and are given to a local charity which helps the needy buy groceries. It is, therefore, a punishable crime to steal the coins from the fountain.</p>

<p class="has-medium-font-size">TIP: If you are early risers, even better. If you can get up and start the day on a high, get up there at 7 am for the best-uninterrupted pictures. The colors surrounding the Trevi Fountain are stunning at that time and there&#8217;s hardly anyone about!</p>
