Best restaurants in Nicosia – The Scale restaurant

The Scale is actually on the ground floor of the brand new Map Hotel, one of the capital of Cyprus’s jewel hotels. SCALE is a comfortable dining experience offering contemporary Mediterranean cuisine with a twist. Alongside the rich eclectic menu curated by a world-class chef, SCALE provides a wide selection of wines & signature cocktails.

The dining experience is completed by a carefully selected wine list and signature cocktails, that complement the food perfectly, and a distinct modern decor with an emphasis on picture-perfect visuals. My personal favorite cocktail? The ”lost boy”, a cocktail with passion fruit and vodka, that is perfect for summer nights!

A few of my favorites

In my quest to figure out whether that Scale deserves a spot in the best restaurants in Nicosia, I sampled 80% of the menu. And it is scrumptious!

The Starters are plentiful, and the portions are closer to mail course portions, so if you put enough on the table to share, you won’t even need to order mains! The menu lets you choose from 3 salads and 9 starters, 6 mains, and 3 dessert choices. The vegan choices are regrettably minimal – however, the kitchen did change a few things to accommodate my vegan friend, which was highly appreciated!

I had two of the salads – tabbouleh with feta mouse and beetroot salad with yogurt. Both excellent introductions to the menu!

Best restaurants in Nicosia – The starters

After that, we moved over to the starters – where in my opinion, lie the best dishes of the menu 🙂 As palate-cleansing dishes, I tried the seabass carpaccio and veal tartare – personally preferred the seabass carpaccio over the tartare!

Then came the stars of the show: Cretan pasta – with rabbit and shiitake mushrooms – absolute heaven on a plate! Then came the Wild mushrooms ragout with black truffle and finally, the cuttlefish lemon risotto. The risotto was beautiful, but if you don’t like lemon, you might want to mention that to the kitchen!

By the time the mains arrived, I was pretty full! But who can say no to seabass with anchovy crust, and spinach cream? Or even better, flap steak with potato espuma? No one, that’s who!

In the unlikely event, you are able to eat any more – do yourselves a favor and continue on to desserts! I tried two of the three glorious options: Loukoumi Creme brulee and mastiha cream with ouzo ice cream.

If there ever was a more perfect ending to a three course dinner is that glorious mastiha cream! Yum!

The Scale is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner – although I find the setting to be excellent for elegant dinner parties!
